I am super excited to be participating in the holiday tag series on The Crafty Scrapper blog. I hope you’ll check them out each day as each designer shares a new inspiring creation. And, there will be a prize giveaway each day!

For today, I’m sharing my Winter Wonderland tag.

And the best part is, I added lights, to make it a true winter wonderland!

Let me tell you how I did it. I started with a large manila tag that I used for the base – this is what the lights get attached to. Here is the back of the tag:

You can see that I used a string of battery-powered lights. I strung the lights through the hole in the top of the tag and used metal ducting tape to secure the wire to the back. I used small pieces of this same tape to secure the lights to the front of the tag.

To create the “pretty” part of the tag, I inked a piece of old sheet music using three colors of Distress Ink pads: Broken China, Faded Jeans, and Salty Ocean. While the inks were still wet, I used my blending tool to ensure an even coat. Then I used a star stencil from Stampin Up along with Prima Texture Paste in Platinum Crackle. While the paste was still wet, I added vintage silver glitter.

I needed a sturdy back to my vintage sheet music that would allow the lights to shine through. So, I used Glue and Seal to adhere the sheet music to a piece of transparency film (the kind you buy at an office supply store), and then cut it to the same size as the manila tag. To allow room for the lights, I added strips of foam core around all 4 edges of the tag, and then glued my sheet music tag on top. (You can see the borders around the tag where the lights do not shine – that is where the foam core strips are.)

I added a vintage image from my collection and a sentiment from the Authentique Christmastime set. If you took my ornament class at The Crafty Scrapper’s Christmas Carousel, you have this in your stash, too.

To cover the foam core edges and give a nice sparkly finish, I added a tinsel trim around all four sides of the tag and then used silvery garland for the hanger.

While I had my supplies out, I made a couple more Christmas tags that I will share soon!
