Treasure Box from Beneath the Sea

Today I’m sharing my latest design team project for The Crafty Scrapper – a mystical treasure box that I created using papers from Graphic 45’s Voyage Beneath the Sea collection along with a G45 ATC Book Box that I altered.

First, I prepped my box by cutting a window in the front so you can peer inside at the treasure it holds. I added a design to the front using embossing paste and a Tim Holtz stencil. Then I painted the box using a mix of Tim Holtz sprays and paints to achieve a weathered, watery effect. Once my box was prepped, it was ready for embellishing!

I started by fussy cutting several of the designs from the steampunk-mermaid-inspired papers. Then I started layering the paper embellishments with shells, Petaloo flowers, and Maya Road metal embellishments.

Here is a look at the book’s spine – more fussy cut papers and shells. I also added touches of Stickles to glitz up everything.

To make it a treasure box (and not just an ordinary box), I added a Tim Holtz keyhole to the side. The mermaid has the key on the front of the box. I covered the sides and inside of the box with more of the Graphic 45 paper.

What’s inside this treasure box? Why, a mini tag book of course! I started with a 12×12 sheet of Bazzill paper that I painted, inked, stamped, and then folded into a mini book with pockets, just perfect for holding a collection of tags.

And here are the tags I created using more of the beautiful Graphic 45 papers and various ribbons and embellishments.

This new Graphic 45 collection is so fun and colorful! I’m already working on some cards with the beautiful scraps I have left over.
