Mixed Media Painting

Today I’m sharing my latest design team project for The Crafty Scrapper – a fun and easy mixed media project. I started with a sheet of the new Tattered Angels Mixed Media Origins printed papers. These papers have a sueded texture that is perfect for layering inks, paints, sprays, dyes…. You name it! They also have several gorgeous designs to choose from, which will help your project look like a professional masterpiece!

I used the Nature pattern for my background. I painted it using a mix of watered-down sprays from Dylusions, Tim Holtz, Perfect Pearls, and even Tim’s Distress Markers.

I let each color dry before adding a new color, but could then go in with a wet paint brush and blend the colors – like I did on the lilies and the butterfly.

The butterfly is a design from another sheet of the paper, the Blooms pattern. I painted it using the same technique as the background, but I also added Diamond Stickles to really make it stand out. I then cut it out and adhered just the body to the paper, and folded the wings up for a great 3-D effect.

The vintage photo is from my collection. It makes me sad when I see old photos piled up at the flea market or antique mall. No one in their family wanted to save their memories. So I buy them and give them new life in my projects.

I layered vintage papers under the photo and made a banner with some inked and painted paper and a phrase cut from the Tattered Angels paper.

To get dimension in the images, it is important to layer multiple colors of ink, such as the lighter and darker browns you see on the rabbit. It keeps the images from looking flat.

I had so much fun letting out my inner artist, and these patterned papers make it easy to get started!

Wow, this is SO cool, Erica! Of course I love the vintage look, and I absolutely adore the whimsy of this with the super big bunny and the beautiful big butterfly! Your coloring is fabulous! Love that you rescued an old photo, too. Really awesome mixed media work, my friend! <3
    And Happy Birthday!
