Be Brave

Today I’m sharing my latest design team project for The Crafty Scrapper.

This month I made a layout using the Tim Holtz Dapper collection. This collection is full of vintage ephemera images that have a great masculine feel. I knew it was perfect to highlight this photo of my grandfather (on the left) and his friend. My grandfather served with the Navy in the Pacific in WWII. I have a couple of photos of him in his uniform, and they are a great treasure.

I started with one of the 12×12 papers in the collection for my background, and then added multiple layers of Distress Paint, Distress Stain, modeling paste, and Distress Inks. I used stencils for the modeling paste bricks and the inked stars. I used a Tim Holtz background stamp with Picket Fence Distress Paint for the random circles in the background. Then I layered several of the 6×6 and smaller patterns from the collection.

To add even more depth and age to the project, I layered a vintage air mail envelope and stamp into the collage. I painted the Tim Holtz flag die cut with Distress Ink in Faded Denim and Fired Brick and pewter Distress Pint.

A mirrored star and measuring tape trim complete the collage.
