The Ornaments

Each year, I make a set of ornaments to give as gifts. This year, I decided to use some of the vintage tart tins and Jell-O molds I’ve been collecting for years. I have them in all kinds of shapes – hearts, stars, bells, flowers…

I searched and searched in EVERY box, drawer, cubby, and cabinet in my craft room, and they were no where to be found. I even thought my husband might be sneaking into my craft room and throwing things out behind my back! I managed to find a few very old, rusty, grungy tins. They would have to do.

I added a cut out of vintage sheet music to the background. Then I added a tiny bottle brush tree that I glittered, a teeny wrapped present, and a darling little Santa.

The Swap

My crafty friend Audrey and I did an ornament swap this year. I always make two sister ornaments, one to give and one to keep. While I was conducting an FBI-level search of my craft room for a collection of vintage tart tins (more on this another day), I found this pair of vintage Santa boots. I knew they would be perfect for my ornaments!

One of the boots was missing it’s white band of plastic “fur” at the top, so I replaced it with vintage tinsel trim.

I added a bottle brush tree that I glittered and topped with a Tim Holtz mirrored star.

The angels are also vintage. Audrey’s is holding the music book and mine has a harp.

Vintage bead ornaments and a small vintage ornament decorate the front.

Their sweet faces are just too perfect!

Wishing You a Fairy Christmas

Each year, I make at least one new ornament. I had a few ideas for this year’s ornament, and decided on a little fairy for my tree.

I started with an old image of a little ballerina. Then I dressed her in pretty laces and sparkly tulle.

She has a Dresden foil crown that I embellished with rhinestones. Her wings are made from old sheet music.

Her sparkly slippers are ready to dance among the Christmas tree branches.

I am adding her to Something Sublime’s Christmas Ornament Blog Hop.

Believe in Magic

I am kicking off the Christmas season with an ornament that I made for a recent event. I was an instructor at The Crafty Scrapper’s Christmas Carousel event this past Saturday. It was a long, fun day of crafting.

For my project, I started with a cardboard base that I die cut (using an old die that I have no idea who makes it). Then we painted it using two colors of Distress paint – Iced Spruce and Weathered Wood. Then we added Forest Moss Distress Stain, Pewter Perfect Pearls Mist, and silver Bo Bunny Glitter Paste.

The dies are all Tim Holtz. The adorable Santa image is from Authentique’s new Christmastime collection. We painted, glittered, and embossed a wooden snowflake from Do Crafts.

We also dyed seam binding with Fired Brick Distress Ink, and added a spritz of the Pewter Perfect Pe...

Christmas Fairies

Each year, I design a new Christmas ornament for our tree, and make a few to share with friends and family. This year, I also swapped with the very talented Audrey Pettit.

Here is my ornament:

ZunkyChic Christmas Fairies

I made the mushroom from paperclay, and then painted and glittered it once it dried.

I made the two little fairies using vintage images from my stash.

I attached the mushroom to an ornament clip base (the kind used to put candles on your tree). I gave the little fairy at the base her own little garden to tend.

And here is the ornament that Audrey made for me:

Audrey Pettit Snowman

Isn’t he adorable? Audrey sews the most wonderful holiday projects, and makes all kinds of beautiful paper crafts. I was so lucky that she agreed to swap with me! I hope we’ll do it again soon.
