I am super excited to be participating in the holiday tag series on The Crafty Scrapper blog. I hope you’ll check them out each day as each designer shares a new inspiring creation. And, there will be a prize giveaway each day!

For today, I’m sharing my Winter Wonderland tag.

And the best part is, I added lights, to make it a true winter wonderland!

Let me tell you how I did it. I started with a large manila tag that I used for the base – this is what the lights get attached to. Here is the back of the tag:

You can see that I used a string of battery-powered lights. I strung the lights through the hole in the top of the tag and used metal ducting tape to secure the wire to the back. I used small pieces of this same tape to secure the lights to the front of the tag.

Believe in Magic

I am kicking off the Christmas season with an ornament that I made for a recent event. I was an instructor at The Crafty Scrapper’s Christmas Carousel event this past Saturday. It was a long, fun day of crafting.

For my project, I started with a cardboard base that I die cut (using an old die that I have no idea who makes it). Then we painted it using two colors of Distress paint – Iced Spruce and Weathered Wood. Then we added Forest Moss Distress Stain, Pewter Perfect Pearls Mist, and silver Bo Bunny Glitter Paste.

The dies are all Tim Holtz. The adorable Santa image is from Authentique’s new Christmastime collection. We painted, glittered, and embossed a wooden snowflake from Do Crafts.

Being Together…

…is the best gift of all.

I made this altered tin (an old Altoids box) as another addition to our constantly expanding Christmas collection.

I’ve had this sewing pattern sitting on my desk for months. The original image has the girls playing pin the tail on the donkey, and I thought their poses were just perfect for holding ornaments while they decorate the tree.

I gussied up their outfits with glitter and gave them each a beautiful ornament to hang on the tree.

I bleached, dyed, and glittered a bottle brush tree. I added ornaments of jewelry beads and vintage mercury glass beads. The little girls remind me of my sister and me when we were young.

I also made a set of gift tags to go inside.

Tis the Season

ZunkyChic Christmas Card

I had very different plans for this year’s Christmas cards, but then I saw this very cool paper in the clearance section of my favorite scrapbook store, and I couldn’t resist. I knew I could make it look Christmas-y, and I loved the muted tones, which match so well with our holiday decor.

So, I got to work on a new design and here is what I came up with:

ZunkyChic Christmas Card

I used white cardstock for the base, layered the patterned paper with tulle, vintage sheet music, and wax paper that I tore into pieces.

I printed my vintage postcard image onto fabric and then stitched it on top. A stamped sentiment and some vintage mica flakes complete the frosty look.

Christmas Fairies

Each year, I design a new Christmas ornament for our tree, and make a few to share with friends and family. This year, I also swapped with the very talented Audrey Pettit.

Here is my ornament:

ZunkyChic Christmas Fairies

I made the mushroom from paperclay, and then painted and glittered it once it dried.

I made the two little fairies using vintage images from my stash.

I attached the mushroom to an ornament clip base (the kind used to put candles on your tree). I gave the little fairy at the base her own little garden to tend.

And here is the ornament that Audrey made for me:

Isn’t he adorable? Audrey sews the most wonderful holiday projects, and makes all kinds of beautiful paper crafts. I was so lucky that she agreed to swap with me! I hope we’ll do it again soon.
