The Countdown

I love the idea of making an advent calendar. I just never get around to doing it. But this year is different. I bought the bare frame from Sa Crafters at the big scrapbook convention last summer. I spent Thanksgiving weekend putting it together, painting, and decorating.

I used images from Graphic 45’s Nutcracker Sweet collection (from a few years ago). I embellished with some new and vintage Christmas items from my collection.

The drawers are covered in vintage sheet music with numbers embossed with red glitter embossing powder.

The tree is a craft store bottle brush tree that I bleached a light green color, and then decorated with alcohol ink-dyed beads and tinsel trim. (Did you notice the snowflakes, a nod to the Waltz of the Snowflakes? And the candy canes for the Peppermint?)

Treasure Box from Beneath the Sea

Today I’m sharing my latest design team project for The Crafty Scrapper – a mystical treasure box that I created using papers from Graphic 45’s Voyage Beneath the Sea collection along with a G45 ATC Book Box that I altered.

First, I prepped my box by cutting a window in the front so you can peer inside at the treasure it holds. I added a design to the front using embossing paste and a Tim Holtz stencil. Then I painted the box using a mix of Tim Holtz sprays and paints to achieve a weathered, watery effect. Once my box was prepped, it was ready for embellishing!

I started by fussy cutting several of the designs from the steampunk-mermaid-inspired papers. Then I started layering the paper embellishments with shells, Petaloo flowers, and Maya Road metal embellishments.

Beach Rules

It’s hard to believe that the end of summer is already here. I have one more beachy project to share before we wind up the season.

For this project, I started with a piece of cardboard that I had previously distressed and painted, and then put aside for another day. It was the perfect background for my project. I added more paint, inks, and Stickles until it looked like a mermaid’s ocean. Then I started layering my elements.

The photo is of Lily Munchkin, making “sand angels” on the beach. I inked a tag with Distress Ink to layer behind the photo.

The lighthouse and “Beach Rules” sign are from Graphic 45’s By the Sea collection. Then I layered moss, shells, and sea glass to frame it.

I wanted the piece to have a distressed look, as if it has been worn away by the ocean waves and salty a...

She Sells Seashells

I had the urge to be creative and had a lot of fun making this beachy canvas. When I started this project, my plan was to do something with vintage dress pattern girls, but the more I layered, I started to see a beach take shape.

I started with a plain 8×10 canvas and just started applying some paint and layers of tissue paper. That’s when the sun took shape.

I used a piece of vintage wallpaper that I colored with Distress Inks and Spray to create the waves of the ocean.

For the sand, I mixed some acrylic and craft paints with glass bead gel. The little beach-goers and lighthouse are from the Graphic 45 By the Sea collection. I also added some tiny shells and a starfish.

I created the title using my vintage typewriter...

Baby Girl

Our neighbors are expecting their first baby in just a few weeks – a beautiful baby girl.

To celebrate her arrival, I gave a little gift of these adorable little shoes.

Zunky Chic ~ Baby Girl

Of course I had to make a card and matching gift bag to go with them!

Zunky Chic ~ Graphic 45 ~ Baby Girl Card

I made the card using Graphic 45’s Little Darlings collection.

The gift bag layers more of the Graphic 45 paper with some scraps from my stash, including a piece of hand-painted and stenciled watercolor paper.
