Be Brave

Today I’m sharing my latest design team project for The Crafty Scrapper.

This month I made a layout using the Tim Holtz Dapper collection. This collection is full of vintage ephemera images that have a great masculine feel. I knew it was perfect to highlight this photo of my grandfather (on the left) and his friend. My grandfather served with the Navy in the Pacific in WWII. I have a couple of photos of him in his uniform, and they are a great treasure.

I started with one of the 12×12 papers in the collection for my background, and then added multiple layers of Distress Paint, Distress Stain, modeling paste, and Distress Inks. I used stencils for the modeling paste bricks and the inked stars...

Mixed Media Painting

Today I’m sharing my latest design team project for The Crafty Scrapper – a fun and easy mixed media project. I started with a sheet of the new Tattered Angels Mixed Media Origins printed papers. These papers have a sueded texture that is perfect for layering inks, paints, sprays, dyes…. You name it! They also have several gorgeous designs to choose from, which will help your project look like a professional masterpiece!

I used the Nature pattern for my background. I painted it using a mix of watered-down sprays from Dylusions, Tim Holtz, Perfect Pearls, and even Tim’s Distress Markers.

I let each color dry before adding a new color, but could then go in with a wet paint brush and blend the colors – like I did on the lilies and the butterfly.

Jingle Bell Fairy Tag

She has finally arrived… our Jingle Bell Fairy made her appearance last night to ensure we have spread Christmas cheer throughout our home.

For the background, I painted and inked vintage sheet music before using a Tim Holtz stencil to apply Prima Crackle Texture Paste in platinum. While the paste what still wet, I sprinkled some vintage silver glitter on top.

The fairy is a vintage ballerina image that I dressed up with paper wings and a silver crown. (I used this same image on this year’s ornament.) She is dancing among her jingle bell garden, which is full of Christmas magic.

Wishing You a Fairy Christmas

Each year, I make at least one new ornament. I had a few ideas for this year’s ornament, and decided on a little fairy for my tree.

I started with an old image of a little ballerina. Then I dressed her in pretty laces and sparkly tulle.

She has a Dresden foil crown that I embellished with rhinestones. Her wings are made from old sheet music.

Her sparkly slippers are ready to dance among the Christmas tree branches.

I am adding her to Something Sublime’s Christmas Ornament Blog Hop.

And the best part is, I added lights, to make it a true winter wonderland!

Let me tell you how I did it. I started with a large manila tag that I used for the base – this is what the lights get attached to. Here is the back of the tag:

You can see that I used a string of battery-powered lights. I strung the lights through the hole in the top of the tag and used metal ducting tape to secure the wire to the back. I used small pieces of this same tape to secure the lights to the front of the tag.

To create the “prett...
